Raskoh is a range of mountains in the Chagai & Kharan Districts. The word “Ras” means “gateway” and the word “Koh” means “mountain” in Balochi. Ras Koh, therefore, means “Gateway to the Mountains.”
Location of Ras Koh Hills
Weather in Kharan
KHARAN WEATHERPakistan’s first nuclear tests were carried out in the Ras Koh Hills on 28 May 1998. The Ras Koh Hills are composed of granite which is beautifully carved out by innumerable channels.
The Ras Koh Hills lies in an arid zone, which is outside the monsoon belt that’s why it’s mostly barren. Most of the people in the area, therefore, lead a nomadic life, raising camels, sheep, and goats.
But Loos is a valley in the heart of Ras Koh which is known for its greenery and fruits due to the Watercourse, that runs through it, supporting a lush collection of fruit trees and shrubs and a vegetable garden.
People in this area have made houses from stones and date palm trunks. It’s a famous picnic point among the locals in summer which is a 2-hour drive and is around 46 km from kharan city. It’s even more attractive in Autumn.
