Kashmir Valley – A Must-Visit Destination

There are many tourist destinations and landmarks in Pakistan. The majestic lakes, craggy forests, extensive natural areas, and hiking paths leading to the cliffs of snow-capped mountains that dominate the skyline all reflect a character and atmosphere of a place lost in time that draws many tourists. One such location is Azad Kashmir, with its sparkling lakes and floral fields. Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), frequently referred to as “Heaven on Earth,” deserves to go on the bucket list of anyone interested in exploring Pakistan. AJK, around 150 km from Islamabad, the capital of Pakistan, is home to mountains, valleys, waterfalls, and lakes beyond magnificent. AJK, which comprises three main divisions, is located east of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and north of Punjab. The divisions are Muzaffarabad, Mirpur, and Rawalakot.

 Since there are no direct flights to the region, the nearest airport to Azad Kashmir is Islamabad (ISB) Airport which is almost 95 km away. After this, your journey will have to continue by road.

With beautiful views of the local hills and rivers, the drive itself is an attraction. The journey by road takes around four to five hours from the capital and takes you to Muzaffarabad, the capital of Azad Jammu and Kashmir. On the journey, you’ll pass through Murree Hills. You can drive yourself or catch a bus from Islamabad as buses depart for different areas of Kashmir. Traveling in Azad Kashmir is secure. Azad Kashmir is a generally peaceful and safe region and it provides all the basic facilities to make your family trip convenient, enjoyable, and memorable.

There is a lot to see and do in AJK, we’ll try to cover the important regions that you must visit in Kashmir. Let’s get started:

NEELUM VALLEY

Neelum Valley, a forested valley in Azad Jammu and Kashmir, is named after the Neelum River. It is also a popular tourist destination in AJK and a great weekend break from Islamabad. A visit to the area would not be complete without experiencing its breathtaking scenery. Along with natural beauty, the valley is home to several small towns and offers a lot of hiking, trekking, and mountain climbing opportunities. The settlements of Kel and Taobat, as well as the tourist destinations of Arang Kel, Kutton, and Keran, are all worth visiting in this area.

RATTI GALI LAKE

Ratti Gali Lake is one of the numerous glacial lakes that can be found in Neelum Valley. Ratti Gali Lake is accessible via a strenuous but worthwhile hike up the mountains. The lake actually takes your breath away at the height of around 12,000 feet, but it’s a magnificent sight to witness!

TOLI PEER

Toli Pir is a hilltop spot perfect for a climb in the summer. It is located at a height of about 8,800 feet. When visiting Azad Jammu & Kashmir, do not skip the amazing view from the top.

BANJOSA LAKE

Banjosa Lake is a man-made lake in the heart of dense pine forests. The area gets lots of snow in the winter, but summers bring out its true beauty when the fields around the lake are green, and the water is perfect for boating.

PIR CHINASI

Would you like to see Muzaffarabad from above? At 9,500 feet above sea level, Pir Chinasi is a hill station that provides breathtaking views of the city below and its lush environs. Many campers stay here overnight to take advantage of the beauty that this site has to offer. Pine and oak trees surround the area.
